I have just received my latest bill and I am puzzled by the charges for calls. I have been cherged for 2 calls to the same number, each lasting 5 m 2 s, starting on the same day 1 minute apart. This seems an impossibility, even if I recognised the number, which is apparently a meter reading service.

You would need to contact CS to query any charges as we can't access your bills or account details here, sorry.

Call customer service and ask for clarification of the charge. It's rare that there is a billing error but if there is then you can be assured they will rectify it.
