My sister is annoyed as she works all day and has no wifi or data on so it takes her ages trying to contact my mum as it always sends as an iMessage.
I was browsing the internet for more solutions yesterday and I found one pointless one - after reading a page of information on how annoying it is when the phone doesn't recognise ex-iPhone users as ex-iPhone users, it's solution was simply to tell them to not get rid of their iPhone.

Nope - up to now Apple aren't much help either. They are adament that my mums number is off their system. I've told them that 3 phones cannot be broken and that if it was off their system then the 3 iPhones would not try to send as an iMessage.

So I've had a long chat with Apple and 3 of their supervisors (2 got disconnected) and their solution is:
NOTHING!!
Well, nothing helpful! They've advised me and other iPhone users who contact my mum to use other methods of communication, such as call or message services (such as whatsapp).

They said:
"As a workaround you can always use a third party chat or communication service to send messages between Contacts."
It's poor customer service and a silly solution as it will not get rid of the problem.
I don't know why they are saying that the number/Apple ID is no longer in their system as surely it wouldn't even try to send as an iMessage if the account was removed?
I am going to sort some other stuff out today and then contact them this afternoon. I'll keep you update.

Just to update you - I just had a call with Apple - they went through everything with me again and the advisor kept asking if I'd done this or that - all of which I'd already told them that I had done.
In the end she said that she couldn't explain why it says on their system that my mum is no longer an iPhone user but according to other people with an iPhone it says my mum still has an iPhone. Anyways, she is submitting a report to technical support and she will contact me next week to discuss what the next step is.

Another update: it's day 4 and this still isn't fixed.
Obviously the technicians at Apple don't work weekends so it'll be Monday at least before this gets fixed.
We are still trying the previous things that we did (deleting and re-adding the number) just in case something works but no luck yet.
