Recently joined o2 from EE
Ported my number over fine (it seemed)
Set up Imessage fine, And changed number in Settings to the number I wanted.
Receiving texts and calls to the correct number,
However, yesterday my imessages started coming from the temporary o2 number which is no longer in service.
But there is no trace of that number anywhere on my phone/apple ID.
I have tried everything suggested on google, and no joy. Turned off all imessage/face time, reset network settings, ensured the correct number is listed in my phone settings. turned off phone and waited for a while,
Rebooted phone, turn on Imessage, it activates but still attaches it to the pre-ported temporary o2 number....
Apple say this sounds like the carrier doing a poor job of porting, and o2 only suggest the same things I have tried.
If you text the pre-ported number (the o2 number i do not want) nothing comes through and it says number not recognisd. and if you call or text my ported ee number they come through fine.
If i Text NUMBER to 2020, it confirms my number is the correct ported number.
But still Imessage only activates to the o2 pre-ported number. If I click the send/receive button, it just lists this wrong number and my email address.
No idea what to try now but it is verry annoying.

It must be getting the number from the sim so hopefully a blank sim will fix it.
It's appearing on other devices due to the iCloud connection.
Is your number still showing in My Number as may have been deleted or changed when you took sim out.

I took sim out of Iphone6, and logged out of Icloud in the Iphone 6.
Put it into iphone11,
and now in my apple ID/ilcoud settings it only says reachable at:
Email address
Temp o2 Number
--
So yes for some reason imessage insists on thinking that the Iphone 11s mobile number is still the temporary o2 number

So new sim came today,
Activated my sim, the swim swap was almost immediately.
So before putting new Sim in I signed out of Icloud/Applie ID. Turned Imessage/facetime off.
And restarted phone using network reset.
Phone booted up and Imessage connected to the correct number straight away
So this seems to have fixed it.
Very weird bug, not sure if its a issue wuth the Iphone 11, Imessage, the initial o2 port, or the Sim Card - or a bizarre combination of multiple of these.
To me it seems like the initial port worked as i was recieving phone calls and SMS as normal, but for some reason the pre proted number was etched into the sim card even after the port, and Imessage was connecting to this.
Hopefully if anyone finds this thread in teh future it will solve it for them
Thanks for the help @MI5
