...well that was unexpected
The guy on O2 Chat (sorry - couldn't call them at the moment!), siad that wrong info had been submitted when I used the app for the request and so it had been rejected - yea, thanks for letting me know (◔_◔) !?!?
When I then questioned him and stated to him that the none of the info within the app was user controlled and was set in stone so how could it submit incorrect info, he then confirmed that my security answer was incorrect?!?!? The app NEVER even asked me for a security answer!!!! (◔_◔)
Anyway, after then giving him the IMEI number of my phone, he confirmed that he had input the request again, and I now have to wait "up to 72 hours" AGAIN!!!!
He then went into the rigmarole of "connect your phone to iTunes blah blah blah".
O2 Chat must read from a script, surely?! Do they even know what they are talking about?!?!!

Yes, they do....
No they don't.
Once logged into MyO2 there is no additional (need for) security checks.
IMEI is automatically taken from the device in use, you can check if it is the correct number for yourself.
If so, that's it, job done.
I suspect it was because you submitted on a Friday, so it will most likely be processed today anyway.
