Xperia Z2 first major update :)

Hey Guys

New to the forums! 

Im aware sony have released the first big software update for the z2 and unlocked handests get the update straight away however i know when you have a device thats locked by the network they have to approve the update first before we can download it. My question is in your experiance how quick are o2 at testing and releasing these updates once they get them? I left t-mobile when the S3 was out due to them taking months and months to release even small updates that unlcoked handests recieved months before hand.

Afternoon chaps,

I shall get this Z2 update looked into - it's not something I'm personally *currently* aware of but i'll find out what the latest is from our device team. Just an FYI regarding network testing & approval - we have, in the past, received updates which have not been network optimised or has not provided a positive customer experience. I won't give any examples but I'm sure you'll know some of the ones I speak of. Our testing ensures the device behaves as expected on our network and doesn't cause any issues, and it also ensures we can alert the vendor to any software issues or bugs that we come across, which the vendor sometimes subsequently fixes. If our testing/approval checks were merely cosmetic, I'm sure the device team could get updates out the same day but as many of you know, our updates are not merely cosmetic changes with our logos.

I'll report back once I find out more regarding any Z2 updates.

Looking forward to the update which will hopefully address a few of the minor gripes, from Sony's website the improvements include:

• Improved camera performance & function with faster start time and better auto focus
• Enhanced in-call audio with fine tuned noise cancellation
• Improved FM radio function
• Graphics improvements with smoother scrolling and image movement
• Improved stability with the latest bug fixes and enhancements

I am also looking forward to the update I'm not to fussed about future ones but the initial release to fix errors since launch would be nice to make the experience smoother. I am looking forward to the graphics wallpapers are stuttery at times and also the camera update! How about you?

For me its the camera stability and auto focus, also the in call audio can be hit and miss, particularly hands free audio is too quiet.  Hopefully these will be improved in the update.

Other than that though I really like the phone, its a big step up from my old HTC One X, especially in the battery department.

When the update is available, will I get an notification on my z2 from update centre?

Most phones have a software setting and highlight one way or another to let you know one is available.

Only thing that does my head in with android is that not all system updates send a notification to the phone, I much prefer updating on my phone then having to keep plugging my phone in to a computer to check, just wondering will this update come over ota on my z2?

Yes it will. Check in update centre but you should get notification of a system update.
