Managed to get the messaging app working again but had to send a txt from my phone to myself. This got it working earlier but when someone else txt me it stopped working again. Weird?? Shall see wot happens when someone else texts me.

Try changing your default message app to google hangouts.

You need to back up your phone in case you need to do a factory reset. Even if you don't need to reset it's a good idea to regularly back up your photos etc.

@MI5 Is Google Hangouts now on the way out? Next update for the OP3T will uninstall Hangouts because Google have something "better"...

No idea tbh as I never use it but the process of choosing a different message app can sometimes kick the stock one into life.
