Group Text Messages

Since Monday 2nd september my group text messaging has stopped working. I was using a Samsung Galaxy 2s. This has always been a stupid phone because of the ten text limit and has been a source of constant iritation. I went to an O2 Guru and we though the problem had been resolved however as soon as I got home the problem apeared again. I had been informed that the Sony Xperia didnt have the stupid limit of ten texts on groups  so have upgraded. Now i find there is a limit of 50 text and when i try to send it has a message you are about to send a lot of texts do you wish to proceed. you have to press this a number of times and while doing this any texts the phone is trying to send will fail so you have to go through them manually! Can i turn this off?

This is the simplest comparison I could find:

http://www.diffen.com/difference/MMS_vs_SMS

Essentially you need extra settings on your phone as they are transmitted in a different way to SMS, and can include pictures and large files.

Also MMS must be provisioned on your account by O2.

If there is not a setting in your phone then maybe can you not set up multiple groups with less contacts in each group ?

Possibly your next avenue would be to ask Sony themselves.

Heres their support page link :

spoken to sony they say they don't have set a limit and the 50 text limit has been set by o2. I run a karate club with about 450 members if an event is cancelled then it is urgent i contact them urgently. Say in march this year, when it snowed badly it was really important we cancelled the grading we had planned that morning. I have 450 members and most have mum and dad to contact. My phone is a business work tool! I have them now set up in numeriouse small groups the biggest of 44 members but it is not working!

Ok.

Maybe then speak to 02 Customer Services to see if this is indeed a limit set by them.

If so they may be able to lift this.

Its the first time ive heard of this.

According to this thread from a year ago, group sms are sent as MMS and charged accordingly, so I'm thinking your new phone may not have the correct MMS settings:

Oh heck !

Would that not have an impact on the OP's bill for MMS Costs ?

Depending on their tariff allowances.

£0.35 per MMS message on contract is going to cost a fortune !

Unless a MMS Bolt on is purchased for £5.11 per month for 50 mms.
