I have just purchased a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and cannot get it to connect to my BT home hub by wi-fi. It keeps trying to connect but fails repeatedly. I have entered the password correctly. can anyone give any advice please?

A simple fix in the end then, thanks for sharing.

Doesn't inspire much confidence in the BT Home Hub.
As jonsie said something simple but a bit silly.

I have upgraded to Galaxy s3 about 2 weeks ago & have similar problem as listed in this topic. ie when I try to connect my s3 to my home network it just says "Obtaining IP address" and then comes up with the error "Network Disabled. Poor Connection" (despite showing full signal). I have a Galaxy Tab 7 & an old iphone 3g which connect perfectly well.
I have tried the following procedures to fix the problem, none worked;
1/ Forget Network, did this and re-entered my wireless key & yes I am choosing the correct ssid and using the wireless key provided I have not changed it.
2/ Have tried the service mode option, ie *#0011# and selected wifi & chose off position for power save.
3/ Changed channel numbers on my hub, deleted previous connected devices. different security protocols 'wpa, wpa2' etc etc.
4/ Had o2 swap out the Galaxy s3, the swap out phone has same problem.
5/ Upgraded my BT Home Hub 2, now have BT Home Hub 3, still no fix.
6/ I have obviously tried resetting my hub aswell as trying full re-set on my phone.
Interestingly my phone will connect to o2's wifi at there shop! I did a full wireless signal heat sweep at home using a laptop, nothing is interfering with my wifi at home.
My new replacment phone did connect twice in the last week to my home hub 3 and gave me full internet access. My HH3 was set to its normal settings and so was the phone. Both times it connected it was out of the blue, just happened to switch the phone on and was connected. that is untill you loose the ip lease or switch off the phone, then back to square one.
Either the Galaxy S3 doesnt play well with a BT hub or Hub not playing well with the phone. All through this settings changes to hub etc my Galaxy Tab & iphone always managed to connect.
The DHCP table in hub manager will list the mac address of my phone, but the ip address it was assigned shows as expired!!
Someone must have cured this problem by now, I need help before I go mad, 2 year contract on a phone I cannot use at home, yes I have week cell reception so rely on wifi at home. Just to say I did install the Kies software on my windows 8 pc and did firmware up date on my s3, current version;
PDA:MC2/PHONE:LK1/CSC:MC1 (O2U)
Android version 4.1.2
s3 Model, GT-I9300

I found there were three adjustments that together fixed the issue for me and the phone now connects every time.
I had the S3 wifi connection problem of "Obtaining IP address" and "Network Disabled. Poor Connection" with my brand new Galaxy S3 on a BT Home Hub 3 (HH3). The phone did occasionally connect if you left it for a day but then connection reverted to the above once lost by stepping out of range etc.
Here is what I now do.
1) Set the wireless settings in the BT HH3 router to 802.11 B/G not the B/G/N option as recommended by BT. Go to the Home Network/Devices menu and refresh the network to clear out any old devices no longer connected. Reboot the router.
2) Go into phone and enter *#0011# to obtain the service screen. Select Wifi option from the menu & choose "off" for power save.
2) Once the phone connects for the first time go back into the router advanced settings, select our phone on the home network and set a higher IP address such as 192.168.1.80 and make it static by actioning the always use this ip address option.
You will need to do 2) everytime after the phone is restarted from a full power down otherwsie toggling wifi on and off is enough to get a connection.
As a piece of guesswork from my sample size of one, it appears that the phone is confused by BT's 802.11 N, needs full radio power to make a connection and gets into problems if it needs to change IP on the network due to a subsequent device being connected and taking an IP previoulsy allcoated to the phone.
Let me know if this works for you, if so, the O2 / Samsung engineers should be able to figure out a fix for this.

Hi there, thanks for the suggestion. I did try it out but unfortunately didn't rectify the issue for me. I have been in touch with o2 again & they have assured me Samsung are aware of the problem & that a firmware update is imminent...fingers crossed.I work within the service industry & deal with Samsung, they know its an issue but haven't heard direct from them that an update is due, will have to wait & see. I moved from iphone to Android & wish I hadn't now lol. I still like my new Galaxy s3 but the love for it has gone.Until its fixed.
Glad your fix worked out for you.

If your referring to this update; PDA:MC2/PHONE:LK1/CSC:MC1 (O2U) then yes I am aware of it & have updated the firmware on my GS3 accordingly.
As for not being aware of an issue, well let me just say there is. Ive read a few of your replies to others with issues similar if not identical to mine & yes..I have followed your recommendation's and those from others without success.
The problem is flaky, just like the kies software but that's another issue. My phone will connect to wifi but only once in a blue moon, I've had mine connect after following a procedure only for the phone to struggle and remain disconnected after a power down/on cycle. Switching the wifi on/off toggle will sometimes cause my GS3 to re-boot.
I'm not saying every Samsung phone or indeed every GS3 has this problem but there are many that do.
