4.2.2 For HTC One X

Anonymous
Not applicable

Following Perksie's advice from the other similarly titled thread that has been listed as solved by someone, thought I'd open a new thread, so any HTC One X users can report on any correspondence they have with O2 about the roll-out of 4.2.2 to the HOX.

The last major update (to 4.1.1) left a lot of users disillusioned with O2 after conflicting answers from a variety of sources. If anyone can tell me how to post a link to that thread for reference I will. I will also copy and paste my comment from the other ('solved') thread below.

Let's hope O2 get it right this time.

@Toby & @Chiara, can you help us at all....?

Hox+ here and love update. Battery better so far and all seems leaner. Ram app says I have a couple hundred extra ram spare under normal usage which seems to confirm this. Same day saw iPlayer downloads now available on android: yeah I thought, alas HTC onex and + not supported. Boo hoo . Shame on you BBC.

Apart from being shipped with Jelly Bean, as apposed to ICS on the early HOX's, having twice as many Gb of storage, and a slightly better processor and battery, I really can't see any ways in which the + is in any way different to the standard HOX. As they are all running Jelly Bean now any way, why won't the same update work for both?

If it isn't out by this avo, I very much doubt it will be released over the weekend, so we will be into another week waiting for O2 to pull their proverbial finger out!

Does anybody think 4.2.2 is harder on the battery ?

Maybe I'm just imagining it, but it seems to be. Or maybe it's just 'cause I'm "playing" with it.

Another chat with an O2 Guru (will post here when they e-mail it to me). They claim that the phone being locked to O2 wont affect me downloading 4.2.2 via HTC sync manager.

Any thoughts?

O2 : Victor: Hi I'm O2 : Victor. How can I help?
Phill: Hi Victor
Phill: I have a HTC One X branded handset. I know you have now released the 4.2.2 os update to the HTC One X+, but when will it be released for the standard One X???
O2 : Victor: I'll check this for you and let you know.
O2 : Victor: Allow me a moment to check this with my Support team.
Phill: no probs, i'll be here...
O2 : Victor: Thanks for waiting.
O2 : Victor: Are we still connected?
Phill: yep
O2 : Victor: Thanks.
O2 : Victor: With us it's not released yet but in open market it's available and you can contact HTC to get it in your phone.
Phill: I cant because it is a branded handset from you, so it is locked to your updates unless I root the phone.
O2 : Victor: No that's not any issue.
O2 : Victor: You can simply contact HTC as they're manufacturer so they can provide you upgrade.
Phill: If that's the case why are people on the O2 forum reporting that unbranded handsets have already received the update ota from HTC, and now HTC One X+ users have had it released from you.
Phill: Surely the whole point of ou locking the phones is that i have to wait for your update?
O2 : Victor: Can you allow me a minute while I check this with my Supervisor?
Phill: no probs
O2 : Victor: Thanks for waiting.
Phill: thats fine
O2 : Victor: I've just checked the HTC ONE X+ is already on 4.2.2
Phill: I know that. I have the standard One X
Phill: "...when will it be released for the standard One X???
O2 : Victor: Did you try to update the phone's software by the below link.
O2 : Victor: Click here to update the software.
Phill: There isn't anything there about pushing the 4.2.2 download
O2 : Victor: As I've already said 4.2.2 is not available with us but in open market it's available.
O2 : Victor: You can get the 4.2.2 in your HTC one phone from open market and locking with O2 will not affect it at all.
Phill: I know that, but O2 is preventing me from getting it! That's the point!
info: We'll email a copy of your chat transcript to p.j.park~~~
O2 : Victor: You can give it a try by connecting with HTC Sync manager.
Phill: I'll try later. thank you.

Overheating issue seems to have gone with the new update but I can't say anything about the battery performance, it's still the same, not bad though. I presume if you retouch the auto sync settings, you can extend the battery life.

I swear that the online help guys HAVE NO CLUE - Im talking to HTC online chat now to see if this is true (downloading the 4.2.2 update and going through HTC sync) im guessing that o2 once again are lying to us and just trying to buy more time

Once again O2 are incorrect with their information!

HTC said:

me: Hello there, I heard that the 4.2.2 update is available for my phone, I have talked to my operator and they say that I can download it from yourselves and install it via HTC Sync. I was wondering if you could give me that link/file so I can go ahead and do this. Thanks,
Just a moment...

Magda: Hello, my name is Magda, thank you for contacting HTC Support, I am looking in to your query now.

me: Thanks,

Magda: Which phone do you have ?

me: HTC One X

Magda: Updates are send always via OTA server directly to the phone
so you should receive it straight to your phone

me: Well I'm clicking on the check now button within settings and its saying that there are no updates...
Magda: do you have imei number of your device ?

me: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Magda: thank you

i can see your device got a brand with O2
Is it correct ?

me: Yes thats correct

Magda: update was released first to unbranded devices then to branded
you need to wait a bit longer

me: Yes people with the HTC One X + have been receiving it - but not the standard HTC One X?

Magda: process is still on so you need to wait
htc one x still receiving this update
was released at 21 of Aug

me: Do you know roughly when the normal HTC One X will receive this update?

Magda: some of them received already

me: That's good news, - would you be releasing over the weekend - or only during Monday-Friday

Magda: all the time via OTA server

me: great stuff. Thanks for your time Magda

So by the looks of it we should recieve it soon via the "check now" button and we may recive it over the weekend - not by HTC Sync manager like O2 keep stating

I've just done a manual 'Check for Updates' and got a system update with mention of Sense 5 and 4.2.2... will do this when I get home and let you folks know.

Anyone else got the same thing?
