4.2.2 For HTC One X

Anonymous
Not applicable

Following Perksie's advice from the other similarly titled thread that has been listed as solved by someone, thought I'd open a new thread, so any HTC One X users can report on any correspondence they have with O2 about the roll-out of 4.2.2 to the HOX.

The last major update (to 4.1.1) left a lot of users disillusioned with O2 after conflicting answers from a variety of sources. If anyone can tell me how to post a link to that thread for reference I will. I will also copy and paste my comment from the other ('solved') thread below.

Let's hope O2 get it right this time.

@Toby & @Chiara, can you help us at all....?

Got mine installed when I got home. I also noticed a secondary update after the main one for the camera and Sense, so remember to recheck.

Observations so far:

i) Where has the Task Manager gone?

ii) When I finally found my list of 'running' apps the memory meter at the top seems to indicate I have lost 0.4Gb ram: It used to say how many Mb was being used out of the 1Gb ram, but now says how many Mb is being used out of 0.96Gb ram - where has my ram gone (baaa!)

iii) Chrome has been downloaded for me - not sure i want/need it

iv) Where have the Developer Options gone?

v) I think others have mentioned this, but where has the tab gone to return to the homepage in the stock Android browser?

@rob_viking: My Wifi seems the same as at home. Will have to try it more extensively though. Did you see that you have the option to order the apps by alphabetically/custom/most recent? When you are at the top page of your apps list (where I also have the weather showing), if you drag downwards again the options to order the apps, a shortcut to the Play store and a search icon reveal themselves. Does this help?

I am impressed with the functionality of the new os, but as already mentioned, it's a shame it was a bit of a shambles with regards to actually getting it.

<<my post from the other thread>>

"I don't know if any of you were on here when the last update saga took place for the HOX? People were confirming that that they were getting the update to 4.1.1 in the UK from early December 2012, but O2 didn't manage to get it out until January 2013. I got mine on 4th January.

O2 had people threatening to leave and all sorts as they appeared to be one of the last uk networks to sort it out.

It wasn't just the delay though, it was also the fact that their staff were telling different customers different things. They simultaneously had Gurus telling people it was in testing, and online chat people saying they hadn't received it from HTC. HTC were saying they'd released it to all providers (and they had), but O2 kept trying to blame HTC for the delays.

It was blatantly O2 trying to get all their bloatware into the handsets, and the fact that they don't prioritise updates like this.

I wouldn't be surprised at all that if other carriers are now rolling it through, that we will still be posting on this thread in a month. I hope O2 prove me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't know how to add a link to the thread that covered all this, it ran into 36 pages it took that long to resolve! "

HTC have stated, using their social media pages (Twitter/Facebook), that the update is being rolled out today for unbranded HOX phones.

A few people on other networks have commented on the Facebook post that they've received the update - not sure if these are carrier branded phones or unbranded on a contract (e.g. bought via Carphone Warehouse).

According to the chat window, you can ask an O2 Guru anything. They didn't say they'd be able to give any kind of a useful answer though....

info:
Welcome to O2. A Guru will be with you soon.

info:
You're through to Guru Neha.

Neha:
Hi I'm Neha. How can I help?

Phill:
Hi. I've seen that the 4.2.2 upgrade for the HTC One X is now being rolled out in th uk. Can you tell me whern O2 will be releasing it?

Neha:
Sure.

Neha:
I'll check that for you.

Neha:
Is 07718?????? <edited by me!> the concern number?

Phill:
yep

Neha:
Thanks for the information. Please give me a few minutes while I check this for you.

Neha:
Thanks for waiting.

Phill:
no probs...

Neha:
I've checked that  for you but  4.2.2 upgrade for the HTC One X is not being released now.

Neha:
You can keep an eye on our online website we'll definitely update it for our customer.

Phill:
I know it hasn't been relaesed by you yet, but it has been released in the uk. I was wondering if you knew when you might be releasing it?

Neha:
We'll update this on our website so that you can get the information about it.

Phill:
Thanks

Neha:
You're welcome.

Neha:
Is there anything else I can help you with?

Phill:
No thanks. Bye.

Had to resist the urge for a sarcastic comment when they asked if there was anything else they could help with. Wanted to put that they hadn't helped with the first thing yet!
