Not sure when it started as I don't actually make that many calls, but while i can send and receive text messages, if i try and ring my number it says 'it has not been possible to connect your call' and when i try and ring out, it is just silence.. i can use Wifi and 4G data is working fine too - well as well as it ever works in my house.. it must be an o2 thing not the phone surely?

@nbhamilt - if you use an eSIM, to fix this you will need a replacement sent.

As you're logged into the Community you should be able to access MyO2 via the webpage rather than the app, link up at top of Community pages, so CS can send replacement eSIM over, however you can also visit a store with valid I.D.

well i just enable wifi calling on my phone, now never tried that before, so it may not prove anything, but it still won't make calls and still won't receive calls - i've already worked through the checklist above - did that before posting here, all it says in my area  is that it can get slow and they are working on it

You need to try your sim in another phone to see if it works or not.

That will direct your focus to where the fault lies and may eliminate the phone.

Possible causes are phone, sim, network or account.

is it possible that as my phone was not an o2 phone, but an unlocked phone i bought separately that o2 changed something to stop voice calls? it seems the sim works in another phone, and a new 02 sim does not do voice calls but also data. it just seems very odd that a phone stops receiving voice calls bet can do sms and data, especially since o2 switch off the 2g & 3g networks?

O2 won't have done anything to stop your calls but depending on where your phone came from, it could be barred.

It's a common scam on the likes of ebay, Facebook etc.

no it was a new phone from JCB toughphone, and like i say texts and data work, - it's just voice calls that dont, but it must be the phone then. why it wont send and receive calls but texts work is very very odd though.

It's a weird fault for sure @nbhamilt

If still in warranty, contact the seller or manufacturer for a repair, if not, try local repair shops etc...
