SIM 1 not allowed should I risk changing to an esim?

Hi I have a pixel 8 pro and have been using it with my existing O2 SIM for the past month. Yesterday out of the blue I lost my network connection and a SIM 1 not allowed error came up.

It doesn't appear that my SIM is the issue as it worked fine in a friends phone, but I'm going away for Christmas and won't have a chance to get a replacement phone beforehand.

My question is should I try out an esim? I'm concerned as I've read ordering one would deactivate my plastic SIM and don't want to risk having no connection at all.

@CB24

Doesn't sound like you have anything to lose in trying an esim.

If you're on the new 360 system you can get one in your MyO2, otherwise go in store, with photo ID, so you don't lose connectivity on your old sim first.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

It looks like it has a lot of potential, if carefully implemented !
