S20 plus battery

hi, I've recently upgraded to an s20 plus 5g at a significantly higher cost than my previous phone (s9) and I'm very disappointed in the battery life, by mid afternoon im on approx 30%! What the he'll is going on, how can a phone that 2 gens on from the s9 have worse battery life?
