No network in Italy

Hi, my Xiaomi is not working when roaming in Italy. It briefly connects to a network but then disconnects. I keep switching networks manually but it disconnects after a few minutes. The signal bars remain even when the sim disconnects, because the sim binds to a local network.

Example: I manually choose the ILIAD network, it connects to O2 for a few minutes and then disconnects from O2 to connect to ILIAD. This happens for all the networks I've tried.

Connecting to iliad or tim etc.. the sim doesn't work, because it tells me that I am not enabled to make calls and doesn't send messages.

Can someone help me? I’m on O2 pay as you go

Info on Roaming on O2 here: Guide: Roaming MegaGuide @jjulees___

Check that your phone has the PAYG APN set:

Go to Settings
Select Wireless and Networks or More (the option depends on the Android Version)
Select the Mobile Networks > Access point names
Choose the Menu button
Select the New APN
Enter the following:
Name: o2 Internet
APN: mobile.o2.co.uk (PAYG: payandgo.o2.co.uk)
Username: o2web (PAYG: payandgo)
Password: password

Select Menu > Save
Choose the name that you have just created
To check that everything is working well, look at where you signal bars are and check if there is 5G, 4G, 3G, H, E or G

Good luck!

The APN is correctly set, so I don't understand what the problem could be

Sounds like an issue with the ILIAD, have you tried  WIND, or  Vodafone Italia, as it maybe that there is no roaming agreement with ILIAD

It might be worth speaking to customer services to ensure you haven't got any bars on your phone, and also if you have been in Italy over 63days your roaming service, will have moved to a chargable services, and you need credit on your phone..

Some things to try:
1 - Reboot phone. (or toggle airplane mode).
2 - Manually search for a different network
3 - Turn off 5g (use 4g) and repeat step 2.
4 - Check with O2 for any roaming bars.
If you message O2 on Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter (https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG) , they should be able to help you with this.

5. Check the Tips and PAYG section in Guide: Roaming MegaGuide

Note: Most 3G connectivity in Italy is now switched off, so 3G  won't work:

Good luck!

I tried with WIND and Vodafone Italia but it tells me that it is impossible to connect to the network right now (it has been saying it for 12 days). I can only connect with Wind and ILIAD.
I have been in Italy since February 14th.

How do I speak to customer service?

Thanks for the reply

You can contact Customer Services from Italy by calling them +44 7860 980 202 (free from an O2 PAYG phone) or by reaching out to their Social Media team on any of the links just below this post, @jjulees___

OK, just a thought. Looking back at the latest posts on not roaming in Italy I notice it seems to involve PAYG.

Are the Italian networks restricting access to none VoLTE phones now there is no 3G?

As I say, just a thought.

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

I know the USA is making 4G Calling a necessity for voice calls when roaming, but was not aware of the same being applied in any of the Europe Zone countries that have retired their 3G networks, @Enlli.
