I have recently been in touch with O2 as my phone was not receiving any 2-step verification codes for accessing online accounts (shopping,paypal, banks) after removing sim card eventually it did fix the issue. After it happened again O2 have decided to send me a new SIM card which was despatched today is this the reason why I now have no service and when the SIM card eventually arrives will this be rectified!

Yes they will have transferred your number to the new sim

Thet do appear to be activating sim cards as they are sent out these days, for some strange reason.
Whether or not it fixes your issue, when it arrives, is debateable.
