I’m sending a text messages to a friend in Ireland and instead of my name or number showing at the top of the text, “InfoSMS” is showing up.

He said it did not go into our regular messages thread, instead to a new thread. Why is my number showing as “InfoSMS” ?

Your friend needs to check what numbers are filed under InfoSMS name in phone and, if linked, Google Gmail contacts.

They may need to create a new contact for your number on their phone to get this resolved, @Jimjims89 - good luck!

Infosms messages are usually marked by networks as such due to them possibly being spam.

This may be due to the fact that your number has been used by scammers for phising attacks or possibly that the receiver has accidentally marked your number as such.

That sounds interesting, I wonder would it be because this is an international sms between UK and Ireland? Our messages previously went into a normal thread with my name on it, now they just say InfoSMS. He tried switching phones as well and it is doing it on a Nokia and iPhone. Must be related to the network. ?

Has the sending phone got the correct SMS Message Center Number configured, @Jimjims89?

For customers on Pay & Go tariffs, your message centre number is +447802092035.

For all other O2 customers, pay Monthly tariffs, your message centre number is +447802000332.

Update, he said he received a few more Texts over Christmas from friends in the UK and they have all been received as InfoSMS. Not sure if these other people are o2 or what network. It’s weird that it’s only the UK numbers. He said Irish texts are showing up with the name/ phone number as normal

As you say @Jimjims89

Looks like they are being flagged by his network as possible spam.
