I have a 5year old Huawei 5200 router. The allocated sim chip is now redundant. I wish to be able to use this when I am abroad (in Italy) using a pay as you go SIM chip. Please advise if this can be done?

It's not possible unfortunately.

You need a specific data only sim for use in any kind of router and they only work in the UK.

If you use a phone sim the system will automatically restrict the use of data from it.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

It can be done, however you will only be able to use a bundle up to 25GB of data before you get charged, and only for short amounts of time (63 in 180days).

It would be better to get an Italian Data Sim, on arrival in Italy.

You may also need to check the 5200 router is unlocked by trying a non o2 sim in it before travelling.
