Can I change any setting on my phone so that when working abroad it doesn't do a foreign ringtone?

No, you cant change it as it is the overseas network that send the dialling tone back.

This is not customer services and we dont have access to your account

You could use a voip service, such as https://www.voipphone.systems/system-features/uk-ringtone/
