Quite possibly because of two credit searches in a very short period of time. Best option is to call customer service and check if anything is showing on your account. However, applying again will probably be a refusal for the same reason.

Most certainly 2 credit checks in quick succession would have tripped the anti fraud mechanism.

Certainly best to ring Customer Services. Hopefully they will be able to see what happened on your account. Though you may be asked to wait and try again...

They won't be able to over ride the credit check.
Best to wait a week and try again then.

Unfortunately yes. They would still have to run the credit check.

Surely credit referrals can use the previous search to force through the additional line

A credit search doesn't remain on file, merely that an application has been refused. If a new application is made then another credit search is done automatically as part of the process. It's the same in banking, I worked on credit card applications for many years and credit files can change on a daily basis as we all know.

I too work in a bank, and yes a search is done automatically, but an appeal can be done and referred for manual scoring. OP clearly passed the first check. Credit referrals should be able to view the previous accept status and manually process the application. @Toby, can we have some clarity on O2s credit referral / appeals process.
