It is in the T&Cs that the data bolt on expires on the next billing date and doesn't roll over but make the complaint anyway. They may just offer some form of goodwill.

Log into your my02 app/account and click on your account details and the bolt on section to see if its still there.

You are correct that when your 500mb resets the extra you paid for is wiped not overly fair

the whole of the bolt on before your end of month then you lose anything remaining, in my case because I bought the bolt on by phone and wasn't told that I'd lose it and I'd used so little of the 1gb that I payed for, O2 have agreed to refund me £7 of the £10.
A lesson people, don't buy any bolt ons near the end of your month unless your certain your use it all.
