iPhone 5 16GB for sale or not for sale?

Anonymous

I've just tried to upgrade my phone and wanted a new iPhone 5 16GB. While the website says the phone is in stock after selecting it it says the phone is no longer available. Puzzling.
But even more puzzling is after chatting online with an advisor I was told the phone is not in stock. When I asked when if they could tell me when new stock would arrive I got the following answer.
" I am not able to comment on wether there will be future stock or not as we now have a contract for the new iPhones"
????
I was then offered a iPhone 5 refurb instead.
Does that mean O2 are no longer selling the new iPhone 5, or their just out of stock?
I would be pretty annoyed if I signed up for a 2 year contract on a refurb and found new ones back in stock 2 days later!
So as after online chat then 50 odd minutes with no answer on the phone I'm still none the wiser!

The iPhone 5 was discontinued when the iPhone 5C and 5S were released so it will be pretty hard to find anywhere still selling it new unless some places still have some stock to clear

Thanks for that! I should have just posted my question on here first instead of doing the chat thing and getting no answers!
Thank you for your help.

I would go into an O2 store to do this.

Lots of unhappy customers on how the stock system changed from in stock to out of stock.

The iPhone 5s still remains in limited capacity. Although things do seem to be improving.

I would really suggest going for the iPhone 5s if your wanting a phone with better specs and 4g capability.

I currently have an iPhone 3 (cringe in shame) so an iPhone 5 was meant to be my better specs and cheaper than 5s. (As much as I'd like one!)
I think I'll go to O2 shop and see. Just very disappointed with online service, not one advisor I've spoken to has said the 5 is discontinued. When I've asked the session gets terminated. Weird that?

Live chat is managed by non uk outsourced call centres which we advise to use for low level general enquiries and not account based as the advice can be a little bit muddled.

My son tried to get the iPhone 5 recently on O2 and could not get it. He opted for the 5c ,which is its nearest cousin !

I understand what your saying about the 5s. I'm on the iPhone 5 now and will be getting the 5s at the end of the month as sim free. Ouch. slight_smile

At least I know where to come for advice next time!
Thanks so much for quick replies, I know where the real O2 guru's are now 🙂

Why do they still sell the 4s but discontinue the 5 ?
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
