I have just paid my last payment for my contract. If i upgrade to a new phone with a new contract will i have to pay the first monthly payment today? or will i not be charged until my next bill date?

End of contract

My 2 year contract ends shortly. I do not need a new phone, however, I want to keep my mobile number. I only use a very small amount of data/calls/txts each month. What is the best pay as you go options for small usage?
