Where does 02 get the RPI price increase from?

The O2 terms and conditions say that they can increase tariffs by the RPI announced each February. The RPI announced by the ONS on 13th Feb 2018 was 2.7%, so why is the tariff increase set at 4%? This is far above the official RPI.

Re: Where does 02 get the RPI price increase from?

My point is that the official RPI announced in February was 2.7%, so an announced tariff rise of 4% is not in line with this and would therefore not appear to be line with O2's published guidance and terms and conditions.

Honestly wouldn't know as we are all customers like yourself and only have access to public info.
You could ask via complaints and if not happy with the answer, escalate to the Ombudsman, but I suspect all mobile networks use the same source as they are all increasing by 4 or 4.1%

I think EE have put theirs up by 4.1%.... So people considering moving networks will be in for more of the same...

Re: Where does 02 get the RPI price increase from?

O2 = 4%
EE = 4.1%
Three = Not yet announced
Voda = March rpi figure

Re: Where does 02 get the RPI price increase from?

@Anonymous I just googled the RPI and the information I got back was that the RPI at 13th February was 4%. So I assume that's where O2 got their 4% tariff increase from.

The thought of someone at O2 going on Google to find out what to increase the prices by makes me smile Smiley Happy

Well @MI5 being the curious soul I am, and using Google as my 'go to' to answer any questions I have, I thought why not check it out. So I did 😊

Re: Where does 02 get the RPI price increase from?

OK I think my confusion came from the fact that there are different inflation rates published on the same date - turns out I was looking at the Consumer Price Index of 2.7% whereas the Retail Price Index is indeed 4.0%.  Where would we be without Google? :-)
