Hi there,

I am travelling to Japan for 3 weeks in April. Should I purchase a bolt-on or unlock my phone and buy a SIM card when I arrive? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

@Lynne Unlock and get a local sim would be my choice.

@Lynne  If you need to keep in touch with friends and family back in the UK while you're in Japan, try to use WhatsApp over Wifi as much as you can.

Definitely unlock your phone and get a local sim for those times where wifi isn't available. Free wifi is almost impossible to find in Tokyo for example. It's available in hotels but some make a charge.
