I currently have a 4g SIM only deal for a 4g phone. However I have just ordered a new 5g phone and believe from all the help topics, That I need to order a new 5g sim to benefit from my new phone. However I have just been waiting 20mins to get through to customer services who told me I don't need a 5g sim and that it's only the phone that needs to be 5g (which contradicts all online help topics) please can someone advise ? I want to use my new phone as 5G and not just have a 4G sim inside it. Thank you

@MarkyMoo85

You 100% do need a new 5g sim unless your sim was issued since October 2019.

Call again and hope you get someone who knows what they are talking about.

@MarkyMoo85 You can use your 4G sim in your new 5G phone but you won't get the 5G service.

You can also check here to see if 5G is available in your area: O2 | Service Status If it isn't you can carry on using your 4G sim until it is.

If it is available you can request that you be sent a 5G sim and you can then swap it: SIM Swap: a mini guide (incl eSim) - O2 Community
