have a pay as you go phone have to upgrade as i think it is 3g can i upgrade and keep the same phone number

Just buy your new phone and put your current sim in it.

If you do need a new sim, you can go in store with photo ID for a free sim swap which will retain your number and balance.

Check if your sim can be resized first.
