Hard to answer without more info tbh.
Have a look here:O2 | text messages being sent as a MMS
Maybe a possible cause as mms are chargeable.

Be careful. I was in the same boat. 1000 percent increase in my bill with no warnings and I couldn't work it out.
Any symbol gets charged as a message MMS rather than your unlimited SMS. @ $ &
Also multiple characters... (those 3 dots will be charged) or xxx or xoxox.
I think its shocking that they can consider this fair. These are western alphabet characters and take no more to transmit than any other letter. My surname is Russell the ss and the ll would probably turn it into an MMS.
I'm going to use whatsapp and change to another provider. I hate being ripped off.

Plenty of ways to safeguard against this. You also need to keep checking My O2. Most phones give you a warning when a text is converted to mms if the phone is set up right.

It is and I still got charged today. It is very true. It just came out of my bank account. I phoned up and that was the explanation I was given but thank you for your input.

Accidental MMS Sending and How to avoid it by MI5 - Here
Too late for you now but we get this so many times.
Try calling another adviser on O2. If you plead your case calmly and politely they may offer a goodwill gesture. They have been known to meet a customer half way but it depends who you speak to tbh. Worth a go....a free call on 202.

Neither had I until today. Even ... makes it a MMS in the UK.
