Transfer number to SIM-only?

Anonymous
Not applicable

Fairly simple question- have been on my existing phone and tariff for nearly 4 years and am looking to upgrade to a Galaxy-S5.

After doing some intensive research, the best deal I could come up with was a combination of a SIM-only one (3rd party seller offering better deal than O2 directly), while buying the handset separately. This looks to save quite a bit of money

My question is, can I transfer my number from my old phone without issue? Keeping in mind that whether I get a new contract through a 3rd party seller or SIM only, I'll be switching from one O2 deal to another. I'm hoping that as it's within the same network it'll be easier than transferring to/from someone else.

As long as it's an O2 sim it doesn't matter.

Cutting them down is a bad idea.

Understandable on networks that charge for sim swaps but makes sense to get the correct one for free from O2.
I've cut down sim cards before and had mixed success with them slight_smile

You can actually buy a sim cutter but unless you make a habit of cutting sims down it isn't very cost efficient.

You could do the sim swap far quicker than awaiting delivery of a cutter LOL

If you make a mess of doing it manually then you are struggling for the code sent to the old sim to get the number swapped to a new sim.

I see the cutters are only a few quid if need be. The best O2 sim-only deal I could find was from mobiles.co.uk. Has anyone had any problems claiming the cashback that is on offer?

If all else fails I'll just play it safe and get the £8.50 deal. Thanks all for the advice! Thanks!

As long as you follow the rules for claiming cashback it's no problem, but make sure you check as sometimes you have to make claims at 3, 6 and 9 months to get the full cashback.
