Things learned from the O2 Outage

Anonymous
Not applicable

1. Download, install and register for TuGo now if you are on pay monthly - if it happens again you will then have the option for TuGo over wifi.

2. Don't rely on your mobile as your only form of communication, especially if you need to be contactable for example for work or business - always ensure you have an alternative method of contact, and another reason to install TuGo now!

3. Don't rely on O2's twitter presence to be any help whatsoever!

4. O2 will update their status page - eventually!

5. People will post a thread here called 'no network' even when there are many threads already with the same title!

Weird how it was only effecting certain customers. I was at a concert yesterday and got no signal at 7pm, but my friend on o2 sat next to me had full 4G. I assumed it was because thousands were in the arena all sharing the mast and it was overloaded, didnt know about this outage

It only seems to have affected certain blocks of numbers, others were ok.

If anyone is unhappy about yesterday's outage, you can post an open complaint on the BBC's website here:

Re: various posts above  ^^^^^ ^^^^^ ^^^^^

before mobile phones

I was once a clerical officer in the civil service ..... = ..... assistant tax collector ..... got some 'superior language' from the so-called intelligent people eg accountants / solicitors ..... = ..... very intimidating they were too ..... why? 'cos they don't like their clients saying, to the Inland Revenue, as it was then, 'the books are with my accountants'

I just stuck it out as-it-were, but my boss then told me it wasn't my job to handle belligerent callers ..... it was just the same at the collectors' public counter, & also when you went 'out on call' to peoples homes / business premises ..... but there were exceptions ..... I don't ever remember 'the cavalry' coming to 'my rescue' despite what my boss att said

I'm still here alive & kicking so-to-speak

Re 1 and 2, doesn't really help much if you're Mobile and out and about on the Road.

I always carry my old S3 in the car which is dual sim and has Three and EE sim in it so there's a good chance I'll always be OK.....

The only problem with back up sims is you need to make sure they stay in service if you don't use them you'll find you'll loose them as the saying goes.
Being in a rural area I wouldn't dream of going out without two different network sims, which means I'll need to get an asda one for when 3 fully intergrate.
As I'm fairly new in here I have not had time to see much about yesterday's issue but don't you do a main issue thread the way gg do ? It tends to be a fast moving and very highly charged thread but it keeps everyone together and customer helpers can give out the link to that one main thread that's updated by the moderators. Personally that's something I do like on the gg forum.

It's something we ask for every time - even just an announcement on the forum would be an improvement.....
