Stealing money from account

Why does O2 take money from your pay and go account for data use you don't ask for. They don't give you an option to decline it. It's a form of stealing from your account

O2 should not offer you 50mb of data to be used before midnight and take £1 off your account without giving you the option to decline it

If data is switched on, which it obviously was, it will automatically update apps in the background. O2 isn't responsible for telling you how to use your data, or how to use your phone. Smartphones are designed to use data.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

You have the option of declining it by learning how to use the phone in the first place Crazy

As O2's data service was connected to by the owner of the phone they assume that's what the owner wants to do as they either have no data package or have exhausted their monthly allowance.

I do agree tho it would be nice if a pop up box occurred advising the owner that they are about to incur costs.

But it is the users responsibility.

The Sony Experia Z I was testing did this everytime I turned mobile data back on.

Are you going to blame O2 because your mother bought a phone she didn't know how to use?

When turning data on using the Samsung Galaxy s4 you also get a box that you must click on to progress telling the user they may be charged.

David, your phone uses the data as soon as it hits connection to the signal. Therefore as o2 don't have our crystal ball how are they to know what you want or need.

You will need to turn mobile data OFF to avoid being charged although please note if you turn your phone off or if the battery runs out it is likely that when you turn it back on the default setting on the phone would turn data back on so you would have to remember to turn it off immediately. (You may be charged for that day though as your phone uses data as soon as it touches the network for signal)
