Selling contract phone before contract ends

Anonymous
Not applicable

I'm a little tight on money atm and have an old o2 phone I can put my current sim in so I was thinking about selling my Samsung Galaxy S2 to give me a bit of extra cash til my contract ends (March). Is this possible? Or will o2 block the phone/will my sim only work in my SGS2?

It depends which contract you are on.

Normally you can do as you wish with the phone supplied, selling it or passing it on to a friend and use your sim in any other phone.

If however you have one of the refresh contracts, the phone is not yours to sell until the handset part of the contract is paid off, at which point it becomes yours.

O2 would only block your account if you stopped paying the bill.

Use this form https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form to have the phone unlocked to all networks to increase its street value.

Your SIM card will work in any phone that's either locked to O2 or unlocked to all networks. O2 can tell what phone your using but I doubt are bothered what phone your using as long as again your paying the bill.

You are fine to go ahead and sell your phone. It is yours to do with as you wish.
As long as you continue paying the monthly contract there will not be any problems.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

So long as you keep paying the bill there will be no issues, the phone is your property. I recently sold mine because Nokia gave me a Lumia 1020 and with Christmas approaching it made sense to sell it.

I work for O2 but my comments and opinions posted here are solely my own and do not reflect those of Telefonica.

Don't count on getting too much. I just saw a brand new unlocked one on eBay for £100. slight_frown
