I've tried messaging a friend in Russia in preparation for going over there in a couple of weeks but none of them are being received? She has messaged me on the same number and I can receive messages from her. Any thoughts as to what's going on?

Apparently my friend is on the cheapest Russian network so it's likely the issue is with them.

Next update....tried texting from dad's phone who is also on O2 and no joy. Next try later today will be ringing.

So far it's either O2 or tele2 that have an issue, not sure which if I can receive but not have messages arrive.

You don't appear to be having any luck.

I'd invest in some carrier pigeons. 😞

Indeed!

One thing I meant to ask, when I'm abroad and attached to a Russian network how do texts work? Do they go from that network to O2 and back again when I'm texting within Russia or do they just stay within the Russian networks?

Interesting question.

I would have thought they would stay within the Russian networks.

Any calls or texts when roaming are handled by the roaming network. It's only voicemail that will go back through O2's servers.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Thanks for the info, that's what I thought. If that's the case I'd be interested to see which network I ended up on and see what happened within Russia. I.e. whether I could send messages to my friend since O2 are effectively out of the question as far as networks is concerned?

Cheers. I'll keep the thread updated as to whether it actually gets resolved and what happens when I'm over there slight_smile
