I am Roaming in South Africa (O2 extended zone) and have the bolt on. Although this worked for the first few days in Johannesburg, I am elsewhere and no longer get the 4G signal. It's generally available here so why do I not get it?

It will be down to the local network, as if you Get 4G ,5G or 3G is down to them, and has bod all to do with o2...
Try one of the other SA networks, such as Vodacom or MTN, CellC or 8ta and see if you get 4G back. but bare in mind 4G is only available in less than 90% of SA and 5G is in 2 places..
I do not work for o2 or any VMo2 /Telefonica/Liberty Global Company

Thanks, but my wife with EE gets 4G fine via Vodacom SA but if I select that I get Can't Connect, so what is preventing me?

Then try to connect to one of those showing as Forbidden, as per this advice in Guide: Roaming MegaGuide @nickholmes :
- Forbidden Networks: If you're struggling to connect to any of the roaming networks showing as available, another option is to try and manually connect to any networks showing as forbidden.
