Recording with o2

Anonymous
Not applicable
Why do o2 customer service immediately hang up when you inform them you are recording the conversation yet they feel it's perfectly fine to record without your permission? Surely if they can record I can too? What are you frightened of o2?

Hi. You need to get permission before you record anyone. IF YOU INTEND TO SHARE THE INFO WITH A 3RD PARTY.  Certainly to inform someone half way through a conversation that you are recording gives them every right to disconnect. They obviously are unaware of your intentions.

O2 do state at the time of the call that calls MAY be monitored for security or training reasons. You have a right to discontinue the call based on that. What you are doing is informing the adviser after the adviser has answered the call. Under those particular circumstances I think personally I would disconnect the call as I would be uncertain of your reason to record and what you intended to do with the recording.

Because legally they have every right to.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

From RIPA legislation :

"Under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA), it is not illegal for individuals to tape conversations provided the recording is for their own use.Recording or monitoring is only prohibited where some of the contents of the communication are made available to a third party."

*Thanks to a very knowledgeable 'professor' for providing me with this information...:smileywink:

Correct but you can't use the recording for any other purpose without consent.
