Trying to port in from vodafone with not much joy, have done the online form with no joy, have tried to speak with o2 over twitter messaging, not much joy there either, any suggestions?

Keep trying until you get a confirmation text back.
If you get a security fail message it's because you need to yse your security word, not your password and it can be reset in your MyO2 if you can't remember it.
