O2 won't unlock my old contract phone

Anonymous

Topic.

Been on with O2 on 202 and the live chat since the 19th of May about unlocking my old Samsung Galaxy S2 which is just out of contract with O2.

I rang 202 on Tuesday, as they said last week that it would be unlocked within 7 days of last Tuesday, no unlock, they sad it would be done by close of play the next day, so I rang up again on Wednesday, no joy and was told to contact Samsung, which I did, they told me they do not give out unlock codes and told me to ring O2 back! I did, and O2 told me that because the phone was not bought direct from O2, they couldn't unlock it! So yesterday I went to Phones 4 U in the Meadowhall Centre to enquire if they could unlock it, the do not unlock phones and told me to go to O2, which I did, went in the shop, they told me to contact customer services on 202, I explained that I already have and they won't play ball!

All I want to do is unlock a flippin' phone that is out of contract so I can either sell it on eBay or keep it as a spare! Why is that so flippin' hard?!

I'm sorry but I have just about had it with O2 customer services, the live chat "Gurus" are about as much use as a chocolate teapot, and the 202 service is also useless IMO.

Guys I'm human and will make mistakes !

If I do then I expect to be pulled up on any by a PM which I find more professional and less embarrassing, and I will edit them or ask a Mod to edit them if I'm past the time period that I can edit them myself, and then i'd apologise to the OP.

Hi guys

I think there's been some misunderstanding here.

@Adam my suggestion was that we should contribute to threads (adding tips or correcting information that isn't completely precise) publicly in a polite and respectful way.

I'm sure we all want this place to be a pleasant and constructive place, the whole point of this community is to help and support each other and share the knowledge you guys have. Hope this clarifies.

Currently experiencing the same problem.

Filled in the Unlocking Form on the O2 web site.

Received an email saying that O2 will not unlock my phone because it was not purchased directly from O2.

Notice the "will not" as opposed to "can not".

Am going to escalate to their complaints team soon.

The complaints process is pretty useless. I did it over the phone, they told me to email, I got a reply telling me to fill in a form and then got another reply telling me to phone. Full circle!

In the end, I wrote a letter and got a letter pretty much brushing me off. I'm now trying another service on a recommendation, which is a shame as I'm paying for something O2 should do for free but refuse to.

When I finally get my phone unlocked (it's been 4 weeks now), I can't wait to never deal with O2 customer service again.

What part of: after contract runs out, the phone is mine!!!, and if I want the code to unlock the phone you should provide it without requesting anything else. I don't want to put my SIM on the old phone, Just send the code and that's it. Is mine and it belongs to ME,ME, ME.

After the current contract finish, you lost a customer for GOOD

For a pay monthly contract you can have the unlocking code whenever you want it.

Payg versions should have been live for 12 months. The exception is if it's for the iPhone.

Customers must have made chargeable calls to latch the SIM card/account to the phones imei number.
