O2 travel inclusive ultimate covers 75 destinations, and the advert includes the following statement:
"The daily charge covers 24 hours from first usage and is triggered if you make a call, send a text or use data. It won’t be triggered by receiving calls or texts."
In the forum, people who have enabled the O2 travel Ultimate, have found that on receiving calls or sms text, the bolt on gets triggered and so they are charged.
Does anyone know exactly the steps required to configure their phone to achieve what's stated in the advert or is this not possible to do?

Standard texts are always free to receive everywhere and will not trigger a charge.
Occasionally, receiving calls have been charged, but O2 will refund those charges. They are usually triggered from the roaming network anyway.
There are no changes you can make on your phone yourself.

Just because you get the text message doesnt mean you are charged, its an automated message to tell you the roaming costs..
Cant remember seeing any recent posts saying they had been charged when on the complete rip off of a plan.. It's cheaper by a long way to get a travel sim.

Which part are you referring to @Parks ?
The travel bolt on is applied to your account, so as long as your sim is in your phone (which can use the required bands in the country you are visiting) it will automatically connect and work.

Thank you for all the replies.
My requirement is to receive any calls or texts made to my current phone number. I will have the bolt on enabled for all days away, but want to be charged for only those days I answer the phone calls.
When I'm away abroad for a number of days, I may on some days answer important phone calls, hence for those days I will have to pay charges, but I don't want to be charged for the other days where I ignore the calls or texts.
I'm not sure if the bolt on can also be triggered for unanswered phone calls by going to voice mail or for when background mobile phone applications use data(that I am not unaware of).
I'm just trying to be cautious and don't want to be charged for all the days away. I apologise for being repetitive, and would be very grateful if anyone could describe what phone settings (if any,) on my Samsung phone that I need to adjust?
I need to adjust to achieve my requirement.

Both data use and unanswered calls going to voicemail will trigger charges.
To mitigate this, turn off voicemail before leaving the UK Guide: All you need to know about O2 Voicemail 901 and turn off mobile data completely and just rely on wifi connections for data use.

Thank you for this information. I will apply these settings before leaving uk. I just hope I don't receive any charges for when I don't answer the phone or for any other events that I'm unaware of.
