O2 £20 Christmas Promotion

Anonymous

Hi Forum,

I've just had a chat with an O2 Live Advisor who was somewhat curt to say the least and unfortunately unable to provide a satisfactory answer so I thought I'd throw it out here in the hope that someone might be able to assist.

I have just joined O2 and, as part of the Christmas Promotion, I sent the word 'CHRISTMAS' to 50202 in order to be eligible to receive £20 Rewards on 31st January 2014. Having done this there is no reference to it in my Rewards account (the top-up done just before has been reflected so it appears to update in realtime) and nor have I received any other confirmation of receipt e.g. text/e-mail.

I was wondering how I go about finding out whether or not I am successfully opted in?

Many thanks,

Mathew

As long as they recieve the sms before the deadline date you should be ok once the new number is active do not optin manually send the promotion text and see if it creates your reward account.

That's a good idea; thanks Adam.

Well no one on here can say how O2 will apply the t&c as we are all customers too.

Absolutely; the reason I posted here was to see if anyone had received a confirmation of acceptance.

To be honest I also thought there might be O2 staff on here too as is sometimes the case even within 'community' forums.

the only issue maybe it sees the reward already alocated to the imei of the phone but if that happens and you have all the proof o2 should sort it when you call up after 31st jan 2014

Note to anybody reading this do not manually optin first try this £20 xmas signup first then if reward account created you know it has worked

T&C are applied as written for all customer or there would not be the need for T&C or unfare if applied on a customer / customer basis

That is why we advise people to read the T&C that apply to their account type / promotion

Just called Customer Services and the chap I spoke to was very helpful, at least as far as he could be...

Unfortunately there is no means available to him to confirm that they received my text or otherwise verify that I have satisfied the eligibility requirements. It therefore really is a case of waiting until the end of January to see what happens.

The issue surrounding me porting my old number in is also problematic and could upset the apple cart. Apparently by virtue of the fact that the Rewards system hinges around a user’s telephone number, as opposed to their account number, if you change your number you are for all intents and purposes changing Reward accounts and there is no means to transfer previous Rewards to the new account. It is apparently more of a quirk and unintended consequences than intentional. There is therefore every likelihood that once my port occurs it’ll wipe out my eligibility for the promotion anyway if the Rewards process runs as per normal – but he did say it was conjecture on his part.

Given the uncertainty over the expected outcome his manager advised him to make some detailed notes on my account so that come the end of January it should be possible to arrange things properly regardless what actually happens. If anyone else finds themselves in the same boat (and to be fair it is quite a standard boat to be in – given the saturated market surely many (most?) people port their number when moving network?) I’d suggest calling CS to make similar arrangements. Based on my experience last night with two live advisors the level of customer service was world’s apart so I’d definitely recommend calling.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and suggestions along the way.

As always we recommend calling for anything a little complicated wink
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

@MJNewton

So best advice would be

1 Get the new phone and top up sim

2 do not do the manual sign up for rewards

3 If porting your number do that next once port finishes

4 then send the registration for the promotion before the close date

5 Check you have a rewards account.

Would that be the way to suggest it to others? especially if porting

Yes, that does seem like a 'safe' approach.

(Of course, if we are allowing optimism it may not matter either way - we shall see!)
