Help with apple watch se3 cellular

Looking for some advice...

Purchased an apple watch se3 cellular for my daughter this Christmas with the hope of cellular connection so she can use her watch independently from my wife's iPhone.

iPhone is with id mobile and I'm aware they don't support airtime plans.

Went to O2 shop and they advised that I should buy any O2 SIM only and then purchase an airtime plan to use with watch. He explained that I could do this by putting O2 sim into the unlocked iPhone, set up plans and then replace the id mobile sim back in iPhone and the watch should be working with the new O2 number.

Well this didn't work and now I'm stuck with an O2 SIM only contract with airtime that I cannot use. I am incredibly frustrated with this as it was an O2 shop assistant that gave this advice but I am willing to accept that maybe he misunderstood what I was saying ... I went back to the shop and a different assistant then told me this was not possible. Hey ho

So can anybody advise ...

If the number can be ported over to this O2 SIM only contract with airtime and if I do this, I can then use the cellular connection on the watch independently from the iPhone? I.e my daughter can then call and text separately from my wife's iPhone.

If not then any other suggestions, cancel contract etc?

I have wasted a lot of time on this and I'm really struggling to find solutions. Any help on this would be amazing! Thanks

@MI5 thanks so much for the reply. Nice to get an answer after being told something else entirely.

Once this has been set-up, will the watch then function independently and calls and messages can be made without coming through the iPhone? Is this managed via the iPhone watch app?

Cheers

You can't use the watch with the IDM sim, noo matter which way you try.

To use the O2 sim with original number you need to port in too O2.

Guide: Migration & porting into O2

Guide: How to find help & contact O2
