Not willing to be competitive

Hi Guys,

Going to have a bit of a moan but thought I would let it out on here and see what feed back I can get.

My contract will end in the beginning of January. Currently have an 18 month contract on the Iphone 3gs with 100 Minutes and 500 mb of data at £26 a month. I am not planning on upgrading my phone as I will probably end up buying the Iphone 5 for cash direct from Apple if I do anything at this point. So I want to change to a SIM only plan. Speaking to advisers no one will give me any option to match other deals I have gotten elsewhere. Giff Gaff can give 300 minutes, Unlimited text, 1Gb of data for £10, I text abroad and estimate on average I spend £4 a month. However I would like to send more texts to family and friends abroad.

So vodaphone can give me a 300 minute, unlimited texts, 1GB of data and 100 free international texts a month for £15. This is what my girlfriend has just agreed with them.

However speaking to O2 no one wants to offer anything as competitive, this has only been via chat, I am yet to phone. All they are willing to offer is the current deals I can see on the website. So I am going to phone to hand in my notice 30 days before the end of my contract, but will see what they can offer.

Has anybody been able to get anything competitive when speaking to customer services or will I be wasting my time?

I have been with O2 for coming up to 4 years so would like to think they would want to keep my business. I have only been in the country for a little over 4 years.

Let me know your thoughts on this.

Cheers guys,

Rob.

When you phone ask to be put through to retentions and see what they can offer.

There are a few debates on this throughout the forum currently.

I think until you speak with the retention team then you are not going to get the answers you want.

Also remember that a new company is more than likely going to offer a better deal to gain your custom. That is not always right but it happens.

Have you also thought about using whatapp for your international texts as as long as you are connected to wifi then you can send as many as you like?

Be interesting to hear how you get on with the retention team ( I would hold off giving notice till you speak with them)

Let us know.

I'll have the same problems in three months and I don't plan to stay with O2 either.

Especially because any time I used the phone abroad or from UK to abroad I had to discuss a huge inflated bill with lots of advisors and had to block the direct debit too.

It shouldn't be 'normal' that I get invoiced twice for every text that I send to someone who lives abroad or when I'm abroad to someone who lives in UK!!

Planning to switch to Vodafone too.

Thanks for the responses.

I do use Whatsapp however my Gran and my folks do not and some of my aunts an uncles so I need to still send text messages. I have tried to get them to update their kit but they are old school and just want to phone and text.

I will post what happens when I speak to the retention people otherwise it is GG, even if I spend £10 a month on international that will be £20 which is the same as what I would get on O2 without any international texts. So would be paying closer to £30.

What was the outcome Northernlights? Did they give you a reason why you was getting charged twice?

I text a lot abroad and never encountered that before.

I don't understand that either. You should only be paying for single texts unless they are over 160 characters. I would be seeking an explanation from customer service.
