Hi since my samsung tablet updated its self i cannot swich on my mobile data . I keep getting a message insert sim card but theres one all ready in . Ive checked sim  is working by putting it in my phone and its works fine .Any ideas what i could try apart from a factory reset .

You could call Samsung and ask them, but I expect they'll say to do a factory reset anyway.
