Data usage

Just received first iphone bill. Although download total is only 15% of allowance I cannot understand how there can be downloads every midnight for instance when I am in bed and my BT broadband wifi is active anyway. What exactly is downloading and why? The reason I  ask is that I need to understand how to ensure I stay within download limits and I thought I simply had to minimise use when out of wifi range???

Re: Data usage

The O2 accounts system updates around midnight each day and is normally an accumulation of the data you have used during the day.

Many apps update throughout the day which will also update even when you aren't connected to wifi. Maybe useful if you check which apps are updating or switch data off when not connected to your wifi.
