Data download

I have on a number of occasions had a message from O2 advising that I can have up to 500Mb download for £1. I have ignored the message as I do not access the web on my Pay-as-u-go account which I use mainly for phone calls. I have still had the monies deducted from my balance despite just closing the message. Has anyone else experienced this?

What phone do you have it must be accessing data.

you need to turn mobile data off.

The £1 is for 50mb a day and called web daily

Only by disabling data will you stop this.

Hi collincp and Welcome to the Forum,

This has happened scores of times to people and is as Adam says.

If you dont intend to use the internet fucntion via O2's Data Service then one top tip is to change a couple of digits in your Apn Settings in your phones settings, which will then stop the phone accessing the internet via O2 , and charging you the £1 daily charge.

The phone will still work via WiFi.

I'm hoping someone can help me. I am having the same problem with O2 giving me 50mb of data to use and taking £1 from my balance. I have a Nokia 201. I have had this phone for almost 2 years and this taking money from my balance has only started in the last 8 wks. I have gone into my phone's setting and tried to find something and some way of sorting this problem out, to no avail. I have tried calling O2 - never get an answer. I've tried online chat - did'nt get anywhere with that. So now i have came here to you. I have gone into my settings to Packet Data - there is no option that i can find that would allow me to switch this option off. O2 took a £1 from my balance about 5 wks ago. They took a £1 yesterday and £1 today about 14.30pm. I am beginning to think my only option may be to change provider's, keeping in mind to ask about this Data problem i'm having with O2. I have a Pay as you Go phone. Very frustrated person. Is there anyone out there that can help me or talk me through what i need to do to sort this problem out. Regards M

The 201 is another old phone with no direct data switch. You will have to go into network settings and disable the O2 apn by changing one of the settings to prevent the connection.

Thankyou for your quick reply. I have gone into my settings and cannot find anything that would allow me to disable O2's apn. Maybe i should just get a new phone, ha ha. Any advice on which phone to get? I only use my phone for messages and receiving pictures so i would not be looking to get anything to expensive. Thanks again for your help.

Something cheap and cheerful like the Samsung Galaxy Y would suit and it has a data switch wink
In the meantime I'll see if I can find out what you need to do to disable your current phone.

OK, just found these instructions on how to set the 201 up on Giffgaff, so if you copy this exactly it will NOT work on O2 wink

Try this;
Settings>Connectivity>Packet Data>Packet Data
Settings>Edit Active Access Pt.>Packet Data Acc. Pt.

Type in: giffgaff.com

Then return to the home screen.
Settings>Configuration>Personal Config. Sett.
>Options>Add New>Access Point>Account Name.

Type in: giffgaff.com

Then, staying in the Access Point menu, select
Bearer Settings and enter these settings:
Packet Data Acc. Pt.: giffgaff.com
Network Type: IPv4
Authentication Type: Normal
Username: giffgaff
Password: password
Now return to the Configuration menu and
make sure the following are set;
Default Config. Sett.: giffgaff
Preferred Access Point: giffgaff.com

Thankyou very much for taking the time to help me. I followed your instructions to the letter and all was well until i got to the end to check my, default configuration setting but i'm afraid it does not giffgaff.com, it still says O2 Postpay or O2 Pay&Go. I will go through everytghing again if the outcome is the same - i'm giving up i'm afraid. Thankyou very much for taking the time to try and help it is very much appreciated. Enjoy the rest of your evening. M
