Cost of Texting the Republic of Ireland

Hi,

A friend of mine has just moved to the Republic of Ireland and bought an ROI phone. I'm just wondering if and how much it'll cost me to send/receive texts from my O2 UK phone to her Irish number. I'm subscribed to O2 Travel if this makes any difference.

I'd also like to know if there'll be any difference in costs incurred when I visit Ireland myself. Obviously we'll both be in the same country but she'll be using her Irish phone and I'll still be using my British phone.

Your allowances can be used when contacting anyone in Northern Ireland.

But not to people in Eire _ Southern Ireland.

Texts to EIRE will cost you 20p each from the UK. O2 Travel will apply whilst your in that country.

Since 1 July the EU cap on roaming charges has reduced texts I make from Ireland to the UK, so they are now 6p.

Why has O2 kept the price they charge me for sending a text from the UK to Ireland at 20p?  Why is O2 giving us a worse deal at home than abroad?
