Contract to sim only

My contract ends this month and I would like to change to sim only
Keeping same number SIM card and package

Use the upgrade option in My O2 then scroll down to 'choose a sim deal'

After the upgrade you use the same sim so no need to transfer number at all.

O2 24 month contract ends tomorrow. If I upgrade to 12 month Sim will I need a new sim card and will I lose connection until it arrives, or do I just carry on using old sim? Thanks
