Advice re: upgrade on O2 refresh

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hi

I own an iPhone 6 16gb on O2 refresh , it's a £47 a month contract that I still owe £240 for as per the divided refresh contract.

I want to upgrade to a 6s. The refresh contract wording is unclear. I am also looking to recycle my 6 at the same time (£237), so should roughly break even.

With this upgrade,Can I essentially continue on my current contract for 24 months and get a 6s free?

or do I need to start a NEW contract ? (Which may include a further hefty extra charge for the new device )? I currently get unlimited data/texts and 20gb data at present, for the same price on 6s contracts you get a lot less data.

Thanks

You can recycle your phone and use that money towards paying off the device plan but you must take a new 24 month contract with refresh to get a 6s

No you recycle the phone and take out what is a new 2 year Refresh contract. You then have the option after 12 months to recycle the phone and again take out a new contract. You cannot just upgrade and carry on your present contract.

and yes, you still have to pay any upfront fees for the new phone too.
That's why they have introduced the 30gb tariff with the "free" upgrade option.

People interpret 'free' in different ways but I think the wording makes it clear. Free upgrades have always involved a new contract and upfront fees.

Personally I think the info about Refresh and how it works (in relation to the new iPhone 6S) should be added to the FAQ thread. (Which would make it more relevant I think)

We have had many questions based round this issue

Just saying it would give a more complete picture, which is what we were aiming for inititally?
