I've had a txt from O2 system nag 08 numbers will be charged an access fee of 25 p when it comes in soon that 08 numbers are free. Does this mean dialling a freefone 0800 number will incur a 25 p charge? Tried the live chat & no use at all!

Currently they are chargeable but will have to free on all networks by the end of the year.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

From the O2 Special Numbers page:

0800 and 0808

Freephone numbers starting 0800 or 0808, which are generally already free from landlines, will be free for consumers to call from mobile phones from 1 July 2015. After that date, you will not be charged for calling any number starting 0800 or 0808 from your O2 phone

It looks to me as if the 25p access charge is for calling other 08 numbers.

I have had the same text in today. It reads as follows....

O2: We are changing how we charge you.

If you call 08,09 or 118 numbers, look out for changes as to how these will be charged from July 1st

We'll charge 25p a minute as an access charge to connect you. For info visit www.ukcalling.info

A little ambiguous and we really need to see those charges reflected on the account.

I'm getting a little tired of all the hidden costs and hard to find info regarding the chargeable 07 and 08 numbers.
It's about time all 08 were free and any numbers that were chargeable came under different prefixes.

It really is getting ever more difficult to know what is chargeable outside allowances but both the network and governing bodies need to sort it out now. Why we have to wait a couple of years for change is way beyond reasonable.

If only ofcom had a spine and did what it was there for, then the consumers would be protected!
