I've had a txt from O2 system nag 08 numbers will be charged an access fee of 25 p when it comes in soon that 08 numbers are free. Does this mean dialling a freefone 0800 number will incur a 25 p charge? Tried the live chat & no use at all!

Not sure about voda and EE but many 08 calls already free on giffgaff, Virgin and Three.....
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Shame I've only just notice this...

Yes the wording could be better, it does leave things open to interpretation but has anybody actually opened @Cleoriff link?

Calls to 0800/0500 are free, no charge what so ever.

the 0.25p is for 0845/0844/0870/118....

Shame the text doesn't state that but it's still exploitation however you look at it.

I opened the link when I got the text. It appeared to be a text of 'two parts'. ie about the July 1st changes ...and then the whammy about the '25p connection charge per minute'...which seems a lot different to what we were expecting..

Why? The networks have to charge something... the 0.25p is what O2 get's out of each phone call, 5 minutes long or 50 minutes long. It's whoever owns the number u are calling that will get that money.

I think this goes back to a question that was asked quite a few times by customers, and I think I've seen it here also. Typical scenario - call to 118xxx, charged 30.00, customer disputes charges and wants to know who's fault it is for the charges, wants to know how much of those 30.00 ended up in O2's pocket....this answers that question slight_smile

I think the point is @Anonymous some people thought ALL O8 numbers were going to be free from July 1st...as some networks already provide that service?... That's why I personally thought the message I got was quite confusing

@Cleoriff

I only know of one network i.e Virgin Moblie that offers free calls to all 08 numbers, but you have to be on a particular tariff:
