4445 rip off

OK - it's only 25p, but how many people fall for it.

I get a standard text from O2 saying I can opt out from my bolt-on by calling 4445. I do that - get charged 25p - then select the menu item for bolt-ons, which tells me to call 4444 - which is free!

Why can't the standard text message just say call 4444? It would also be useful to say which menu options to use to get to the bolt on - the menus are complex.

How many O2 customers - say 5 million. 1% do this per day? that's 50,000 x 25p, or £12500, £90K per week nearly £5m per year. I have guessed the numbers - but whatever they are it's a lot of money - just because of an 'error' in a standard text. Sounds like an OfCom job to me.

I think there should be more consistency regarding the cost of calling customer services on PAYG. Mind you, 25p is cheap nowadays. I can remember running out of credit once trying to get help with my Nokia 3330. £5 wasted without speaking to anyone Smiley Indifferent

Most of the newer tariffs are free to call customer service,  certainly the big bundles are.

When I was replying yesterday, I didn't realise that someone had resurrected a five year old thread. How are they finding them?  Smiley Frustrated

 

But I can see why some people might be confused by O2 charging for those calls on one tariff (i.e the Big Talker), whereas they're free on another. I think there's an argument for making all calls to customer services free of charge, but if they want to retain a nominal fee for those calls, then it would make sense to apply it to all PAYG tariffs.

This business about posting on really old threads is a double edged sword I always think.

1) All credit to anyone who can find them...BUT

2a) Things have usually changed...and 2b....only the original poster can mark as a solution
