02. Price Rise. Inability to explain. Spelling.

Well, after complaining to 02 regarding the recent price rise I received an e-mail which ended with the following: "We trust this provides you with an adequate explanation our decision."
It also contained the word price spelt as prise and intio instead of into.
And I pay these people?
Not surprisingly, I have complained again. Maybe I will receive another e-mail with spelling mistakes.

Just tried to find out how much to cancel my contrat due to the unfair price increase and have been told it is £286 + VAT. Just another way of getting as much money out of us as possible!

I find this strange. At Vodafone if you pay a ETF you pay the same as O2, i.e months remaining MINUS VAT. Surely the rules on tax are the same for every company.

You don't pay VAT with O2 either, not sure where that has come from.

Please everybody ofcom created this mess and there is no "sprit" of the Ofcom guideance it is obvious that the media have over hyped this  Only 3 so far has correct wording stating no rise (must check again)  vodafone T&C still state thay may go up. (looks like 3 have been sneaky http://www.three.co.uk/_standalone/Link_Document?content_aid=1220457053001 )

Ofcoms guidance basicly says

1 must be explained at point of sale if any rises mid term and how many and when (post 23rd jan 2014) or

2 Must be fixed (core tariff only post 23rd jan 2014)

How did ofcom create this mess?  o2 are the ones putting up the prices mid-contract and getting everyone riled up.

Stating that this is ofcoms mess is like blaming the police when someone decides to urinate in my flower beds - after all, it's the police's fault for not surronding my garden with armed police 24/7 just incase someone decided to urinate there.  It's a logical fallicy.

1 Ofcom consulted on mid tariff price changes http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/2013/01/ofcom-sets-out-proposals-to-tackle-mid-contract-price-rises/

2 the decision is the guidance issued by ofcom http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/consultations/price-rises-fixed-contracts/statement

3 O2 has complied fully to the letter of the guidance there is no loophole and the price rices have been in all the t&c that are vaild now

I think many customers of 02 are feeling much the same concerning price rises. I joined 02 contract 4 years ago, it wasn't long before my monthly charge was increased, and then again recently I am told it's happenning again. Tut tut, but luckily I am at the end of my contract, and looking at the new contracts with 02, I'm glad that I am. I have switched to GIFGAF and happy as a bee in pollen. When I called 02 about leaving the rep got a wee bit hot under his collar, but I stood my ground and asked him, can you give me 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data for £10.00 a month................. simple answer. No ! But I did try to dispell his anxiety by reminding him that GIFGAF runs on the 02 network, oppps that didn't help either. Oh well................

O2 may be following the guidance laid down by Ofcom and at least now people like me ( yes didn't read every word of my contract in 2012 and was surprised by the increase last year) who now know, can vote with their feet and move to someone like Tesco who I think are saying no to price rises mid term. It's a shame as I have been with o2/ bt cellnet for 15 years.

I think Ofcom were hoping the mobile companies would voluntarily get rid of mid term increases after theguidance but obviously not. If enough people leave. I bet they will!!

Both giffgaff and O2 are owned by Telefonica, so it's no real loss overall to the business.
